Grace for the Gap

image

There is a gap between the ideal and the real in all of us.

I’ve noticed that when I don’t have grace for the gap in myself, several things tend to happen:

1. I shift into “try harder” spirituality which inevitably leads to burnout.

2. I become hyper-critical and judgmental of myself, which doesn’t get me anywhere.

3. I strive for perfection instead of practice, which results in frustration.

4. I lose my joy.

God has grace for the gap. He wants us to as well.

How do you respond to the gap between the ideal and the real? Do you give yourself grace? Do you give grace to others?
