Our Deepest Desires

“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” – Augustine

If we do not allow God to satisfy our deepest longings, we will inevitably become restless, driven, angry, addicted, hopeless, defeated.

Ironically, if we believe in God, we may blame our discontent on him: “God, if you just gave me _____, then I’d be happy” instead of, “God, just give me you.”

Of course, God is happy to give us many good things besides himself. He delights in it. But any blessing from him that surpasses our love for Him ends up becoming a curse.
