Using Music Strategically

Lately I’ve been trying to listen to a song a day.

I know that’s not a lot, but with the ability to hear almost any song on demand for free these days, it allows me to find just the right one for where I’m at.

Music can be a powerful mood-lifter, perspective-setter, and energizer. It can slow us down when our world is spinning and speed us up when we we’re struggling to go forward. It has the power to touch our souls, move our emotions, and shape our minds.

There’s nothing wrong with listening to random music at random times, but I think there’s something to be said for listening to specific music at specific times.

Runners get this. Many have a “power song” that helps them push through that final leg of a race or get through a particularly difficult workout.

We try to be intentional about so many other things in our lives…why not with music, too? Since it’s so influential,  we might as well use it strategically.

A prayer to get you started could look like this:

“God, thank you for music. Please lead me into the songs that will speak to my soul and bring the encouragement, rest, motivation, perspective, and energy I need to be at my best.”
