Lately I’ve been:
Finishing. I’ve been knocking out various projects that have been in process for awhile. It feels good to get things done and check them off. Ecclesiastes 7:8 says, “Finishing is better than starting.” I agree.
Retooling my daily routine I have a new and improved game plan from 3 AM till 8:30 PM and it’s working better than ever.
Fighting for my health by going after portion control and taking a stand against excessive sugar. The better I eat, the better I feel.
Re-upping on personal discipline. Proverbs 25:28 says, “A person without self-control is like a city with broken down walls.” Self-control is one of the best gifts I can give myself.
Investing in my kids because parenting is important work. I’ve been implementing some new habits and routines to ensure that they get the best of me instead of the rest of me. Totally worth it.
Reading. Usually non-fiction. Right now: God’s Secret Agent and The Story of The Pony Express. I also regularly read Christianity Today, Fast Company, and Books and Culture. Reading helps me keep growing.
Eugene Peterson wrote,
Perseverance does not mean “perfect.” It means that we keep going.
I love that.
When I look at the above list I think about the many mistakes I’ve made along the way: Delaying instead of completing. Over-training. Mindless repetition. Overeating. Getting lazy. Overworking.
But at the end of the day, if by God’s grace I’m still in the fight, then I’m still in the fight. No one leaves the ring unscathed. It’s just a matter of who stays in it and who throws in the towel.
It’s a new week and a new round. What are you working on?
