Why We Struggle to Surrender

Whenever I find myself wrestling with God, it’s usually because I doubt his goodness. I’ve bought the lie that he is cruel, stingy, demanding.

You’d think I’d have learned by now. Every time he’s asked me to lay something down, it’s been for my good. No catch, no divine bait and switch, just grace. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10

You may find it hard to believe, but God’s not out to ruin your fun. If he’s asking you to surrender something, it’s because he loves you and wants what’s best for you. You can fight him, and he’ll let you win, but you’ll be miserable and miss out on his abundant life.

It’s like that scene from The Lord of the Rings “Do not take me for some conjurer of cheap tricks. I am not trying to rob you. I’m trying to help you.”
