The Driver’s Seat

If Jesus is just your passenger he might as well be your pet.

Whatever drives your decisions controls your life. If you’re a Christian, you may think that God is in charge when in actuality your anxiety, fear, anger, or insecurities are calling the shots.

God has a destination for your life. He has amazing things he wants to do in and through you. He wants to move you from where you’re at to where you’re called to be.

But you’ll never get there if your wheel is constantly being yanked. That’s how crashes happen. And you’ll never get there if you slam on the brakes every time you’re afraid or only step on the gas only when you feel comfortable. That’s how people get stuck.

The most successful Christians keep God in the driver’s seat. If Jesus is just your passenger he might as well be your pet. This is not about abdicating responsibility. It’s not about you moving over so God can take over. It’s about divine union. It’s about sacred partnership. It’s about God in you and you in Him. It’s about Jesus guiding your hands and feet as you follow his God Positioning System, aka the Spirit.

“Let the Holy Spirit guide your lives.” Galatians 5:16

Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.” Galatians 5:25

“The person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him.” 1 Corinthians 6:17

So how’s your driving? Who or what is really in charge of where you’re going and how you get there?
